Design for Change(簡稱DFC)是在2009年由印度河濱學校Riverside School的創辦人──吉蘭‧貝兒‧瑟吉校長(Kiran Bir Sethi)發起。

  瑟吉校長早期是一位設計師,這讓她後來成為教育工作者後,仍不斷追尋更好及更新穎的教育方式。她希望河濱學校可以培養出對萬事好奇、更有能力達成目標的孩子,她也希望幫助孩子學習人生最寶貴的課題──建立「我做得到」的自信心,讓孩子知道解決生活周遭的問題並不是一件不可能的事。現在這間學校有300個孩子,而且其課程已經被許多學校認可及廣泛應用。

此外,瑟吉校長亦提出aProCh計劃,意指「每個孩子都是主人翁」(A Protagonist in every Child),她因而榮獲2008年Ashoka獎助金,該獎助金是由美國Ashoka(愛創家)基金會為獎勵社會企業家而設立的,社會企業家就是那些如瑟吉校長一樣,為世界上最迫切的社會問題提供系統解決方案或相關幫助的人。

在2009年,瑟吉校長更受邀至國際知名的TED論壇上發表「教導孩子如何發揮影響力」(Teaches Kids to Take Charge),此演講到目前仍是TED 論壇的教育類中最常被點閱的演講之一,已被翻譯成28種語言。

瑟吉校長於演講中提到由她發起的Design for Change,DFC旨在給孩子們一個機會去發揮自己的創意和想像力,透過實際行動令世界變得更美好,藉此讓他們培養改善社會問題的能力。

現在全球已有接近40個國家及地區參加 Design for Change,感染了接近3,000萬個孩子,而且數量不停增加。

DFC還得到音樂人兼Child Honouring的創辦人若斐‧卡佛肯(Raffi Cavoukian)創作了一首主題曲,名叫”I CAN”(即我做得到),歌詞簡單易懂,孩子們容易朗朗上口,亦明確表達了DFC的中心思想。若斐希望這首歌能激勵聽到它的人為世界作出我們想見的改變(the change we want to see in the world),這也是甘地的名言。

Design for Change (Short form: DFC) was originated by the principal of Riverside School, Kiran Bir Sethi in India in 2009.

  Sethi’s early training as a designer enabled her to always ask herself for a better and more innovative form of education after she became an educator later. She hopes that the Riverside School can cultivate the children who can be curious for everything and have the abilities to achieve their goals, as well as for the children to learn the most valuable lesson in their life - establish their self-confidence of “I Can!”. Children will understand that it is not impossible to solve the problems around them. The school now enrolls almost 300 children. And its curriculum has been recognized by many schools and widely used.

Furthermore, Sethi also proposed a project called AProCh which stands for "A Protagonist in every Child." She thus won the Ashoka Fellowship in 2008. This fellowship which is granted from Ashoka foundation in the United States is established for encouraging the social entrepreneurs. Social entrepreneurs are those people like Sethi, who provide the systematic solutions or related support for the world’s most pressing social issues.

In 2009, Sethi was invited by the famous TED forum to have a speech to talk about “Teaches Kids to Take Charge”. This speech is still one of the most frequently viewed speeches about education in the TED forum. And it has been translated into 28 kinds of languages.

In this speech, Sethi mentioned that she founded Design for Change. DFC is designed to give children an opportunity to express their own creative ideas and put them into action for making the world better. Besides, this challenge also helps to develop their abilities to improve the social issues.

Currently around 40 countries and regions join Design for Change and 30 millions children are "infected". The number is still growing.

The musician and the founder of Child Honouring, Raffi Cavoukian created a theme song for DFC, which is called “I CAN”. The lyrics are easy to understand and children can learn how to sing it easily. It also clearly expressed the key ideas of DFC. Raffi hopes that this “I CAN” song inspires those who hear it to be "the change we want to see in the world,” as Gandhi said.
