questions from teachers

Why the need for such an event?
Why not? We are trying to help children realise that they can ‘be the change’! and therefore, change the perception that they are helpless and do not matter – by giving them the power to change Australia.

How much time do I need to spend when I participate?
The competition is designed to be flexible and ‘teacher friendly’ – allowing each participating school to design its own project, in its own way, to fit with school terms, holidays, and other curriculum demands and requirements. The competition is to be held over a minimum of one school week, with a minimum of 30 minutes a day. How much time you spend working on your project is completely up to you.

What are the various ways in which students can participate in the Design for Change Contest?
Students can do anything from simple acts of kindness like helping an old person cross the road to organising a drive with other children in your area to clean up your school or a nearby park.

How do I run the competition with my class?
The competition is designed to be flexible, allowing each participating school to design its own project, in its own way. Please see the sample activitiesfor one possible way the competition can be run.

When will the event be held?
Please check the contest timeline section for details.

Who can participate in the events?

Are there are any prizes or certificates that will be given out?
Yes. The details of which will be updated shortly on the website.

Are there any registration fees?
No, there are no registration fees.

Would there by any penalties for registering but not participating?
No there are no penalities for not participating – however we do hope that if you register you full intend to participate!

No draft plan is required.

questions from students

My school is not participating in the Design for Change Contest, what can we do?
You can take on the initiative by yourself, as an individual or as a group. However keep in mind that you will not be affiliated with a school when you enter so you will be unable to win the competition.

Can a group of friends from different schools participate in the Design Challenge?
Of course, but keep in mind that you will not be affiliated with a school when you enter, which renders you unable to win.

Can I get my school to participate in the Design for Change Contest?
Of course! The whole point of this initiative is to involve as many schools across Australia for one purpose. Since we can’t reach every school in Australia, you can help us by spreading the word.

How do I get my school to participate in the event?
Approach your teacher, principal or head of school, if they haven’t already registered. Log on to the website, register, download the toolkit or request it to be sent to you (if it already hasn’t been sent to your school).

Will you give me promotional material to put up on the notice board?
All our material is downloadable off this website. Which consists of the toolkit and promotional items such as posters.

How much time do I need to spend when I participate?

Minimum one week.
